Tournament Overview
Teams of 4-6 fourth and fifth graders read from a list of eight books chosen to appeal to a variety of interests and introduce young readers to a wide range of books. During battle season, readers meet with their teammates to discuss the books and create a Board Game based on one of the books. Reading is a shared activity that culminates Tournament Day, a day long event. Teams will rotate through 4 areas on Tournament Day: Team Battles, Lightning Trials, Games Arena & Players Court. At the end of the day, teams will be treated to a presentation from the featured author of one of the books.
Participants will:
- Read from the selected book list
- Become experts on the books they read
- Practice answering questions about the books as a team
- Compete head-to-head against other teams in Team Battles and answer questions based on the books
- Compete against other teams in Lightning Trials answering questions based on the books
- Showcase the board game they created in Games Arena and play other teams board games
- Participate in Amphitheatre, an impromptu challenge based on the books
- Hear a presentation from the author of one of the books and participate in a Q & A session with him/her
- Vie for awards in Team Battles, Lightning Trials, Games Arena, Amphitheatre as well as Most Creative Team Name, Best Coat of Arms & Slogan, Best Team Spirit and more!
